| Capathi (Indian flat bread) with Dhall (lenthil curry) |
Let me share with you one of our favourite breakfast spot in
Penang...so...for those out of town, when you’re in Penang, instead of the
usual hotel breakfast, just head down to this spot...it will not fail you...I
PROMISE...
It is a 2nd generation run Indian-Muslim stall selling
“Capati”. What I like about him is that; he only prepares “Capati” once an
order is made and I seldom see him preparing any “Capati” way in advance. Ever
since I “bumped” into him a year ago, I can finally indulge how “capati”
suppose to taste like plus it is super soft unlike other stalls that sell like
a “Frisbee”. Accompanied with Sardine “Sambal”...boom!!!...a perfect blast-off
to start your day
Another “shock” thing about our “Anneh” is that should you order 2
“Capati”, he’ll serve you one first then once you’re done, he’ll serve the next
one piping hot....so COOL wei!!!!

| Capathi Anneh who has always got a smile on his face |
Frankly speaking I don’t see any other stall doing that...This is what
I call dedication and passion towards serving only the best. Sometimes I
usually go there not only for his “Capati” but just to get some
motivation/reminder especially when I’m down about my company/business... Just
looking at him...seeing how he loves doing what he does...smiling while getting
the job done...accompanied by his loyal radio airing Tamil songs...a very
simple set-up, straightforward and nothing fancy...gosh if only life can be
like that once in awhile...
Well anyway if you’re wondering how come I have not mentioned “anneh’s”
name, it’s simply because I don’t actually know his name...how ironic is
that?...When I arrive some friendly hand gesture right across to him and a few
minutes later, hot “Capati” with “Dhall” and with a cup of local-made
coffee....HEAVENLY
Where is it Ray?...I tell you now...It is at Penang’s UNESCO Heritage
Site. The street you have to look out for is Beach Street and once you laid you
eyes on HSBC Bank, you’re there!!!...
Sandwiched between two heritage buildings (built in 1800s), one of it
is HSBC Bank, you will notice a stretch of stalls laid side by side and “anneh”
stall is smacked right in the middle. It can be a little tricky because the
path that leads into these stalls are
quite hidden so when you’re at HSBC...eyes open “big-big” ok...
If you guys not sure where the place is, let us know and maybe we can
go makan together...yes?
Enjoy “Capati”....
~ Ray
